Irish Soda Bread

Serves 4

What you will need

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

3 tbs softened butter

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/3 cups buttermilk

3 tbs sugar (or 4 tbs for your sweet tooth)

1/2 cup raisins

How to do it

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking power, butter and salt in a large mixing bowl and blend ingredients together. Add in the raisins, when the consistency is crumb-like.
  3. Slowly pour in buttermilk into the dough mixture.
  4. Remove the dough from the bowl and knead it on a floured surface until smooth.
  5. Shape and score the dough with an "x" and place it on a greased cookie sheet.
  6. Cook for 35 minutes or until light brown.
  7. Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing. Serve with butter and enjoy!
