Product Care

Denby is world famous for its stoneware products and is fast gaining a reputation for porcelain and china. As you would expect, all Denby tableware is practical, durable and extremely good looking.

Stoneware

Stoneware clay is very strong. It is fully vitrified (most surfaces are made glossy and non-porous) which gives it strength, durability and chip resistance.

Denby glazes are extremely hard and you may notice grey lines from cutlery on your dinnerware over time. This is metal left behind from your cutlery which has been abraded. We suggest using a lightly abrasive cleaning solution (e.g. Barkeeper's Friend) as soon as marking appears. Matte glazes will tend to show marking more.

It can be safely used in:
Dishwasher - Use liquid detergents, low temperature cycles and rinse aid to remove surface residue. Ensure you do not exceed the recommended detergent dose level. Ensure dinnerware is not touching other pieces when in the dishwasher. Avoid powder, tablet and gel detergents. Avoid high temperature dishwasher cycles. If you live in a hard water area, ensure water is sufficiently softened.

Porcelain

Similar in strength to stoneware, porcelain has a more translucent body and is naturally a blue-grey white.
It can be safely used in:
Dishwasher - we recommend using liquid detergents. We have found that powder detergents and those that are phosphate free can cause filming on dinnerware.

Freezer for storing food
Oven safe to heat to a maximum of 200C but not suitable for cooking

China

China by Denby has all the elegance of china with all the long-lasting toughness of Denby. Its elegant and refined but also tough, usable and chip-resistant.
It can be safely used in:
Dishwasher - we recommend using liquid detergents. We have found that powder detergents and those that are phosphate free can cause filming on dinnerware.
Microwave - for cooking and reheating food
Freezer for storing food
Oven safe to heat to a maximum of 100C but not suitable for cooking

Glassware

Our glassware is dishwasher safe, however hand-washing is recommended to preserve the lustre of the glass in some cases. To hand wash, use a gentle, non-abrasive dish washing detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly to assure no detergent residue is left as this can interfere with the aroma and taste of wines, beers and other beverages. Dry immediately with a lint-free towel or cloth.

If you choose to clean your stemware in a dishwasher, arrange securely in the top rack with the bowl facing down. Please do not place in the bottom rack or lay glasses on their sides. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, immediately remove glasses from the dishwasher and hand dry with a lint-free towel or cloth.

Avoid extreme or sudden temperature changes to glassware to prevent cracking or shattering.
DO NOT add boiling liquid to glassware.
DO NOT add cold liquid to hot glassware; be sure to allow hot glassware to cool to room temperature before use.

Stacking

Even the hardest surfaces can be scratched: diamond scratches diamond. This can happen with all ceramic goods including your Denby. So please take care when stacking and handling your Denby as scratches can be more visible on colored glazes.
